Grammy Award winner Akon has filed a lawsuit in a New York City court against some former business associates of his who named their latest line of fragrances “Konvict”, which happens to be the name of the record label that he created and heads.

According to papers filed in Manhattan Federal Court, Akon had been talking with developers about releasing his own fragrance. He was later surprised to find out that his former partners had formed Konvict Cosmetics International without his consent. The company has released two scents bearing the “Konvict” name: one for men and one for women.



Akon wants the company to cease production of both products immediately, but there’s no word on whether he’s seeking monetary damages.
