Lena Horne, who was the first black performer to be signed to a long-term contract by a major Hollywood studio and who went on to achieve international fame as a singer, died on Sunday night at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell hospital in New York. She was 92 and lived in Manhattan.

LENA Horne was the great women i have read about .SHE was afraid to speak her mind about the injustice in Hollywood , I admired her strength as a black women she speak her mind , as a black women growing up in the South Carolina i use to her the old black talk about Lena Horne i use to get so excited . We have lost a legend, but her sprite and strength continue to live on thought her music.
