HHW: We appreciate your time; the series is wonderful.
LA LA: I really like that magazine (Hip Hop Weekly)! You guys have shown me a lotta love over there.
How did the idea of the series come about?
I’ve been a part of the network for many, many years, and they approached me about it. Reality shows can be tricky, but I knew that this would be a way to give people a sneak peek into my life, as a career woman, a mother and a wife. I share a piece of me with the rest of the world.
Did you have requirements about what you wanted in the show?
You know what you’re getting into before doing it. You have to make an honest show, not have it edited to just show the glitzy parts. That’s not reality. We gave a good amount for the audience to see.
What was it like?
It was an experience. I was never the wedding girl who knew what the colors would be; I didn’t know what to expect, but it turned out to be an awesome experience.
What did your friends say about the wedding?
A lot of them said it was the best wedding they had ever been to. Walking down the aisle is something I’ll never forget. I saw all the little moments I forgot, so having it on TV, I get to relive it, too.
Will you want to do something else?
If anything else is done it’ll be about what I’m doing. This show is a life journey I was traveling through while juggling career and motherhood. It’s my step into the next chapter. Anything else would be a continuation from that.
Since your wedding was being televised, were you under additional pressure?
I lost weight, but I wanted that for me. I wanted this to be reality, but I wanted the wedding to be what it really was. I tried to keep things as if there were no cameras there.
How was Melo at the wedding?
He played it cool. I’m sure inside he was a little nervous, but anyone who knows him knows that he plays it cool; he’s super chill and laid back. He doesn’t say too much. He kept it together. I don’t know what was going on inside, but he seemed to have it together.
Were you really emotional during the wedding ceremony?
Not really, but when I was about to walk down the aisle, it just hit me! When I said, “I do,” I was relieved and happy that we made it this far – that we did it. I was the person who said, “The wedding’s coming, but it’s so far from now.” Then it was here.
What about the fact that a lot of women are still looking for Mr. Right?
If you find happiness in your career or with your children, you will attract people to you. Stay focused, but put yourself in places to meet people. You have to be out there and mix and mingle a little bit.
