The grammy nominations haven’t been announced yet but speculation is heating up with many experts predicting Eminem taking home the top prize at The 53rd annual Grammy Awards.
In the album of the year category, Eminem’s “Recovery” is the clear favorite in a subpar field. “This is Eminem’s year,” says Billy Mann, who co-wrote and produced last year’s showstopping Pink hit, “Glitter in the Air.” “He brought his best game and then some. The public can feel it, and the industry can feel it.” To date, “Recovery” has sold 2.7 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Los Angeles Times chief pop critic Ann Powers says Eminem’s comeback story, as well as the fact that his album was both commercially successful and critically acclaimed, will resonate with Grammy voters. “He’s a major figure in pop history,” she says, “and he seems to have really grown into himself.”
Eminem has won 11 Grammys. He’s been nominated for Album Of The Year twice before for The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show in 2002 and 2003 respectively. They both won Best Rap Album, along with Relapse which won the category earlier this year.
Possible nominees for Best Rap Album are Eminem Recovery, Jay-Z The Blueprint 3, Drake Thank Me Later, The Roots How I Got Over, Ludacris Battle of the Sexes, and Rick Ross Teflon Don. Best Rap/Sung Collaboration is going to Eminem & Rihanna for “Love The Way You Lie” or Jay-Z & Alicia Keys With “Empire State Of Mind.” Last years winner was Jay-Z, Kanye West & Rihanna with “Run This Town.”
Do you think Em can win Album Of The Year at the Grammys? The only other Hip Hop acts to win was Lauryn Hill for The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1999) and Outkast for The Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (2004.) Last year, Taylor Swift took home the award for her album Fearless.
The nominees will be announced on December 1st with the ceremony taking place on February 13, 2011.
