Last night, VH1 premiered the fourth season of Dr. Drew’s Celeb Rehab which stars Keyshia Cole’s biological mother Frankie Lons.
The show features celebrities who are trying to ween themselves off of drug and alcohol addictions. Earlier in the year, Frankie described her 18 days in Dr. Drew’s rehab as “irritating, excruciating” but admitted that she participated in the show because she needed help “ I was tired of people looking at me. I was drinking until I blacked out. It’s a disease“. She also revealed that Janice Dickerson (who’s also on the show) almost made her lose it. “I was going to relapse on her head! Nobody could deal with her when she first came in.”
During the show’s debut last night, fans poked fun at Frankie and tweeted Keyshia Cole about her mother’s appearance on the show. Keyshia Cole in turn, offered her thoughts on her mom’s addiction:
“Really hope franky gets better. There’s nothing lol about it. Its a very painful thing. I’d really love for my son to know his grandmother. Thank u for all of ur love and consideration. We can not change the people we love. But maybe the love we have to give can help change them”
“So glad that u all have seen that no matter the road, U can overcome. U must realize that U R NOT ALONE. Let strength over power ur fears.”
It will be interesting to see if Celeb Rehab helps Frankie. I know people will look at her as comic relief on the show but that is someone’s mother/grandmother. It gets to a point where it’s not funny anymore. Hopefully the show helps her get better.
