HHW recently sat down with Killer Mike to talk about his upcoming album “PL3DGES” and how it will show you why he’s one of the greatest.

HHW: How long have you been working on your album PL3DGE?
KILLER MIKE: I’ve been workin’ on PL3DGE for about 8 or 9 months.

Where is your favorite place to record and why?
My favorite place to record is Tree Sound Studios. I wish I could show you how strong the vibe is in that place…well actually I can. PL3DGE is a magical album because Tree Sound is a magical place. It’s more than a Studio; it’s a place where artists like Yela Wolf, Pill, Laws, Mickey Facts, Emilio Rojas, CyHi Da Prince, Sha Stimuli, and BIG KRIT will all be there – no sessions – just hangin’ out chillin’ together. Never seen that in any other studio in the world, and Mali can cook her ass off, and she does often for the entire Studio!!!!!!

What type of vibe do you like or try to create while working in the studio?
I love a vibe with a lotta Purp/Kush. My select few folks kick it with Grind Time Official, pretty women and dope ass beats. My Vibe is basically, this is our club, if you are NOT a member, Goodbye!

When do you prefer to have your recording sessions? Is the time of day relevant to your creativity?
I like 24 hr sessions because usually I get goin’ round 5am. The God hour!

What are a few must-haves at your sessions?
I must have water , Simply Lemonade, Coca Cola (my energy drink), smoke – and lots of it! Composition books, gel point pens, books and magazines, some homies and pretty girls!

How did you come up with the album title?
I Pledge Allegiance To The Grind I and II were both called Pledge by Smiff, of Smiff and Cash (Producers for GTO since 06), so we call all the albums Pledge I or Pledge II. When it came time to title, PL3DGE said IPATTG III is one short sweet sweep!

How do you know or determine that you’ve had a successful session?
If folks walk out the session singing the record, or folks just start asking you for a copy when u leave, you’re onto something kid! That’s when you know session has been epic!

Who are some of the producers you worked with on the album?
I’m back with Smiff and Cash as always; Sweat Box are the cornerstone of this album – we’ve made classic music – NO ID, The Bizness, DJ Speedy, Raz the Beat Billionaire, The Beat Bullies, Flying Lotus and a few very new kids!

If there’s one thing you want people to know about Killer Mike, what is it?
I am one of the greatest rappers you’ll ever hear, and one of the greatest MCs you will ever see. No worries if you don’t see it yet. PL3DGE will show you… Salute!
