HHW: What are you working on right now?
EMiles: Songwriting-wise, I’m working on stuff that’s coming. You know, Trey [Songz]…we ‘bout to go back in…I’m working on Kayla Smith…I did some records with her. I was working with Carl Thomas, but I don’t know what’s up with his situation… Working with Sammy…and then just a bunch of other stuff.
What’s it like working in the studio with Trey Songz?
It’s great, man. The dopest thing about working with Trey is, it’s like we got similar personalities, I think, and we kind of relate to the same type of stuff. On his last album, Passion, Pain & Pleasure, I co-wrote on 8-songs, and I co-wrote the song “Bottles Up” and I produced the song “Love Faces” with Troy Taylor.
What would you say have been some of the biggest records you’ve written so far?
Of course, “Bottoms Up,” is one…and “Black Roses.” I think that was a big song for Trey. It was on the album. It wasn’t a single but its just like an amazing song that’ll probably be something that’ll stick around for the rest of his career. I haven’t really done any big records outside of Trey [project yet]. I was designed to be an artist too. It wasn’t like I was just talking about being a writer for life. I produce too so its like I produce, write and I do my own music which I’m about to bring out soon.
How did you first get introduced to music?
[At] 9-years old my Dad was like in a quartet group and I used to like grab guitars and do little stuff,and then they found out I was kind of dope, so then I started just messing around writing songs and stuff like that. So ever since like 9, I been like on that.
How did you go from messing around, to doing music professionally?
It happened when my ex-manager, he ain’t my manager no more, Grandmaster Slice, he introduced me to Hakim Green who was a member of Channel Live. And Hakim was real good friends with Carl Thomas, so he invited me to Carl Thomas’ house and I met Troy Taylor, who pretty much discovered Trey Songz. He was like I got this artist named Trey Songz you might wanna write for him. He thought I was real talented so he pretty much discovered me as well, put us together and the rest is history.
Which do you prefer…writing for others, or writing for yourself?
Writing for myself! That was always the thing… The only reason why I started making beats cause I ain’t have nobody to make no beats for me. I’m from Pleasantville, North Carolina, born and raised.
How would you describe your sound?
My sound is universal; I just feel like musically I like to listen to everything. Any genre, I can get with it if it’s a good song. I feel like my sound comes from just having a passion for music.
