“Tupac’s Back?!” Well, not exactly! When it’s not meant to be, it’s just not meant to be. Remember the Tupac biopic that’s in the works? Well, the director, Antoine Fuqua, has left the project and now its status is unclear.
Fuqua left the Tupac biopic to direct Dreamworks Pictures’ Southpaw, a boxing movie written by Kurt Sutter and starring Eminem.
Southpaw’s plot line revolves around a left-handed welterweight boxer played by Eminem. His quick rise to stardom turns into a life of trials and tribulations that he must face and overcome to reclaim victory.
There’s no release date set, however people can expect the film to premiere later this year.
Kurt Sutter, Southpaw’s director stated:
“I took meetings with Marshall’s producing partners over the past 7 years, looking for something to do together. I know he’s very selective and doesn’t do a lot. But he shared so much of his personal struggle in this raw and very honest album, one that I connected with on a lot of levels… At its core, this is a retelling of his struggles over the last five years of his life, using the boxing analogy.”
Kudos to Eminem and his upcoming movie, and as for the Tupac Biopic, a big question mark is left looming above it. But don’t worry, there’s still a movie written by Tupac coming up. The movie Live 2 Tell was written by Tupac when he was in prison. It tells a story about a drug dealer’s attempt to turn his life around for the better. Live 2 Tell will begin production this fall, and it’s already been purchased by NStar Studios for $11 million.
