Check out our latest Writer’s Block interview with Verse Simmonds.

St. Thomas, Virgin Islands
“Buy You A Round” Verse Feat. Yung Joc
“Crazy Night” R. Kelly

When and what sparked your initial interest in music begin?

I’ve been doing music pretty much all of my life. It’s been my only passion, the only thing that I pretty much wanted to do but when I kind’a got into it professionally was probably 2003 when I hooked up with my partner Sham and we created a production and writing company called The Juggernauts. We’ve just been rockin’ since then.

When did it first occur to you to transition into performing your own music?

Its always kind’a been the plan to get on as a writer/producer and it would be easier for me to get noticed as an artist. Its kind’a worked out.

What was your first pivotal business move as an artist?

When I got to Atlanta I put out a record called “Buy You A Round” and I did a deal with Interscope Records.

What happened with that deal?

That ran it’s course and now I’m in a new situation with Konvict/BuVision.

What were the most immediate changes that you noticed after you did your first big record?

The most immediate thing for me was just getting on the road; after I did “Buy You A Round” I was on the road for like a year and half just off of that one record. So that was the most immediate change, being on the road four or five days a week [and] going to different spots and just trying to touch people with the record and make sure that everybody was aware of it.

What’s your main goal at this point in your career?

My main goal right now is really to get an album out by the tip of next year. And me and my partner Sham are really pushing my production team out there right now. We did the Rihanna “Man Down” record that’s out right now and then we also did two songs on the Watch the Throne album with Kanye And Jay-Z. We wanna be that top producer/artist/writer team that is around the next five years.

What are the two songs that that you have on the new Kanye and Jay album?

We got a record called “Who Gon’ Stop Me” and then another one called “Sweet Baby Jesus”. The track listing is on line right now and they’re numbers 8 and 9, I think. The album is going to be out later this year. It’s going to be historic as far as Hip Hop is concerned. It’s going to be crazy to just be able to say you were a part of a project like that. I think when they put out this album it’s going to change the game a lot. I mean, it’s Jay-Z and Kanye, you don’t get any bigger than that.

What should we be looking for from you down the line?
Right now I have a single with Kelly Rowland called “Boo Thang” and that’s been picking up real fast and I’m real excited about that. I got my [mixtape] The Sex Tape Chronicles 2, which is also produced by us, The Juggernauts. That came out a few days ago on the 16th of July. People who had a chance to hear The Sex Tape Chronicles 1, really liked it and I think we stepped it up on this new one.
