Today marks the 10th anniversary of Aaliyah’s untimely death and BET plans to air a special tribute to the singer to honor her life.

staked her claim on the Billbaord charts from the birth of her career. “Back and Forth” — the first single off her first album “Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number” — skyrocketed to No.1 on the R&B charts two months after its debut. But it wasn’t until Aaliyah met close friends Missy Elliott and Timbaland that her chart domination spread across the board. Aaliyah held four No. 1 titles and 12 top 10 titles on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Radio Airplay chart.

The singer died in a tragic plane crash on August 25, 2001, shocking thousands of fans, but few have forgotten her since. From Tiffany Evans and The-Dream paying musical tributes to Drake penning love letters, Aaliyah lives on in memory.
