On her 30th Birthday let’s reflect on how Beyonce kept her baby bump hidden from the public before she made the big announcement during the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards that shocked the world.
Thats right, after Beyonce made her surprise announcement, Twitter broke a record of over 8,000 tweets a second. Her announcement was made on the red carpet of the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. As she cradled her baby bump it was safe to calculate the singer’s pregnancy to be more than 3 months. We all know Bey was hard at work 3 months prior, performing around the world while promoting her latest album 4. So, how did she do it, how did she keep the bump on the hush? According to News.com, Bey was able to keep everything under wraps by wearing specific clothing to attract you to every other part of her body, except her belly.
At her intimate New York City Roseland Ballroom performances last month, audience members reported that Beyonce “smiled from ear to ear the entire time,” while others say her dance moves were kept to a minimum. We all know why now.

News.com reports:
When Beyonce performed at the Roseland Ballroom in New York early last month, she wore a thigh-skimming dress with a silver flap draped over her tummy to draw attention away from any hint of a bump.
“It’s amazing she has managed to keep it secret so long but she has used very careful styling,” Donges says.
“She has worn loose tops, and drawn attention to other areas of her body. There’s a saying, ‘If you’ve got it, flaunt it’, and she has done that by showing off her legs, so we don’t look at her tummy, or had a lot of detail on her dresses so we focus on that rather than shape and size.
“She also wears big jewellery, so that becomes more of a focal point.”
Darren Banks, Splash News and Pictures Australia picture editor, says her wealth helped keep everyone in the dark.
“When you have the sort of money they have, you can take private jets, have a multiple convoy of cars and stay in some of the world’s top hotels with lots of exits, making it very difficult to be followed and photographed.
“Beyonce doesn’t need to go out shopping and she tends to stay away from the usual celeb hang-outs. So it made it easier for her to keep it a secret.”
