On Sunday, October 16th in Washington DC, the Martin Luther King Memorial was dedicated by President Barack Obama, Aretha Franklin, Tommy Hillfiger and Grammy Award Winner Miri Ben-Ari who performed an original composition called “Black Tone” and the second was “Bus Passed” which she performed with PoemCees.

When asked what it means to be performing at the memorial. Ben-Ari, states “I moved to the US all the way from Israel with a dream. It has been a tough journey; legacies such as MLK’s inspired me not to give up and to follow my Dream.”

Ben-Ari moved to NY from Israel at eighteen to persue her dream and after years of hearing no’s from music execs, she started hearing yes’s after she was discovered by Hip Hop’s Superstar Kanye West. Since her discovery, Miri’s carreer catapulted and has made music with artists such as Jay Z, Twista, Wyclef and many others.
Fastforward to earlier this year when Ben-Ari was named one of twenty-five women from various backgrounds who were deemed a “Remarkable Women” by First Lady Michelle Obama.“Being honored by First Lady inspired me to become a better person, artist and a mentor for others by sharing my story and music.”

“I feel that my story represents the “American dream” as well as the universal message of Martin Luther King, which encompasses freedom, rights and possibilities.”
