Diamond formerly of the rap group Crime Mob has been on a non stop grind as a solo artist for a few years now. She has become a topic of discussion on the blogs. Whether its about who she is dating, her latest music video or just being sexy. Diamond has been able to keep the critics talking. In this exclusive interview she talks what her and Lil’ Scrappy’s relationship is like today, Crime Mob reunion and taking on a new sound.
You been on the blogs heavy and you just dropped a mixtape. What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m working on a single that’s going to jump start the album. I’m focusing on a new sound and a new direction. I feel like I’ve aced that particular sound you heard on the Bitch Music mixtapes. I’ve tapped into a new sound with Cocaine Waitress. I’ve just been able to put another cap on and be very very lyrical. So as far as all the Bitch Music and that whole sound, I have aced that and so it’s time to move on.
You are definitely one of the hottest female rappers coming out of the south right now. How are you going to set yourself apart from being categorized as being a southern female rapper versus being a female rapper?
I’m thinking bigger than that. I don’t even want to be categorized as a female rapper. I just want to be known as a rapper or entertainer. With this new sound I’m working on, it’s not just southern. I feel like all these years I’ve been rapping, all of the records I’ve put out have had the southern sound. I want to showcase my versatility and that I can rap on different sounding beats.
You keep talking about a new direction. What is the new sound going to be like?
D: I’ve always been a fan of R&B music. So I’m doing a little bit of singing. A lot of people don’t really know about my Spanish background and I’m going to tap into that as well. Those are the few things I will say because the rest I can’t give away. You know how people swagger jack, so I can’t give too much away.
Who are you working with on the new album?
I can tell you who I want to work with. I want to work with Timbaland and Swizz Beatz. Some of that stuff is in the works. I’d like to work with Dr. Dre. I want a universal sound. There a few records where I’m mixing the singing and rapping. I got a few people in the works to be on the album and when they do, we’re taking it to another level.
What went wrong with you and Lil Scrappy?
Well, I don’t anything bad to say about anybody. Me and Souljah Boy are great friends. We are just friends. Scrappy is doing his thing and Souljah Boy is doing his thing as well. It’s a positive situation that people have commented on when they didn’t even know what the hell they were talking about. Of course, bloggers are going to pick up something that’s juicy to give them more hits. You know, they have to do their job. It is what it is.
What are your thoughts on the current state of female rap?
I think it’s starting to pick up. More people are starting to step their game up and it’s important to experiment with different genres of music. It’s like fighting a losing battle when it comes to being a female rapper. You’re going against all odds and you just have to go hard with your work. I can kind of understand why some people feel the way they feel about female rap because females are very emotional and lot of times people don’t want to deal with female artists because we make decisions based on emotions. So you just have to think like a man and act like a man. Leave that emotional bulls*** alone because nobody has time to deal with that.
Plus, labels don’t really want to take chances on females because women fall in love, get pregnant, and want to be married. That’s where women lose out in this industry. Men can get somebody pregnant and not have to slow down because they’re not the ones carrying the child. so with women, it’s a lot more risk involved. Women have to prove that they’re different and aren’t going to waste the label’s money.

Do you feel like the male rappers are becoming just as expensive as the female rappers? The men are getting stylists and want to wear high fashion name brands as well.
I agree with that. It’s like a popularity contest. It’s all about the people you have around and who they know because you can have all the talent in the world, but if your image isn’t right you won’t make any waves.
Will we see you with your own reality show in the future?
Hell yeah! There may be a Diamond reality show in the works, you never know. [laughs]
You and Princess of Crime Mob were going at it for a while and you two are cool again. How did you two reconcile?
I don’t have any enemies. I just want that to be clear. I’m not a hateful person. There have been people who have dissed me and I had no problem with them. I don’t think about that negative stuff. When I eat, sleep, and work, it’s all positive thoughts. I’m so far from that negative s*** and on a different path, it’s not even funny. I’m in a great place right now and I felt like I needed to put an end to all the speculation.
Is There a Crime Mob reunion in the works?
Maybe so. I’m going to see what I can fix up. [laughs]
