MAKING THE BRAND: TOP TRADEMARK AND LOGO TIPS BY ROBERT LOPEZ

1. Prior to engaging in any business endeavor, do your due diligence and ensure that the name you are running with is clear as a trademark on a nationwide level…

2. Adopt a name that is not only available to secure as a trademark, but that is also available as a corporate name (i.e., inc./llc) and as a domain name

3. Before promoting and/or introducing a product or service into the marketplace… make sure you have secured ownership rights in the name and design as a trademark or copyright…

4. Know the different forms of protection that a trademark and/or copyright offer…

5. Always use the ® ™ and © symbols to put the public on constructive notice of your claim of rights in the brand and/or designs you are putting out…

6. Waste no time in attempting to enforce your rights in your brand name and/or designs when you become aware of third party uses that may infringe your trademarks or copyrights…

7. Build your brand to its full potential while owning it and allow it to create licensing opportunities that can generate royalty income for you…

8. In closing, do not listen to homies in the streets on business and brand protection advice…there is no such thing as a poor mans copyright and just because you registered a name for use as a company such as a corporation or a limited liability company that does not provide you with ownership rights in the name trademark…
