The cold war between Joe Budden and Consequence, rappers who both appeared on this season’s Love and Hip-Hop: New York, came to a head this week as Cons attacked Budden during the filming of the show’s reunion episode.
News of the assault landed online March 12 when Cons updated his Twitter, announcing that he had hit the Slaughterhouse rapper. “Just Smacked The SH—outta @JoeBudden at the #LHHReunion. Everybody have a Nice Day…. #QueensAllDay,” Cons wrote.
Shortly after the reunion was taped, Consequence spoke with HHW about the altercation.
HHW: Did you go to the reunion with the intention of smacking Joe Budden?
CONSEQUENCE: I went to take care of business. And business got taken care of.
HHW: People are looking at this like, “Consequence is trying to redeem himself for allowing Joe to run up on him and Jen during their Hot 97 interview.” How do you react to that kind of statement?
CONSEQUENCE: Well it is disrespectful to walk up on another artist’s interview. Let’s be clear about it. That’s a sign of disrespect, point blank. I was fine with what I said, how I said it and how I handled it. It was other things that had been said later that made the situation become volatile
HHW: So looking back on the day Joe confronted you at Hot 97 – you wouldn’t do anything differently, if given the chance?
CONSEQUENCE: There was too much talkin’. That’s why there wasn’t really any talkin’ at the reunion when the slap occurred. He had done an interview with ThisIs50.com and he was asked by Jack Thriller what would happen if me and him got into a fight and Joe chose to say that if I did another interview and I alluded to him he was gonna approach me in a different way. That’s disrespectful to the utmost.
HHW: Walk us through the first altercation at the reunion show. He’s saying you hit him from behind.
CONSEQUENCE: I took care of business. There is no behind! There is no front, behind, side … none of that. He said when he saw me next time he’d approach me differently if I say something. So clarify what you say! Don’t blame me for taking advantage of a situation you gave me!
HHW: Joe said you ran after Tahiry hit you, is that true?
CONSEQUENCE: I did not run from nobody. Let’s clarify this. I smacked him. Tahiry hit me. So then, the security grabbed me and then [Joe] comes runnin’. I did not smack no man to run from no man.
