Kicking off February 14th and concluding February 16th, Houston’s Warehouse Live will be transformed into a sexy South Beach nightclub and concert venue that will host some of the biggest acts in hip hop.
HHW caught up with Vickery to discuss the lineup of parties and performances slated to take place during one of the hottest weekends of the year.
HHW: All-Star is officially less than a month away. Are you ready for the fun to begin?
Jessica: I am. As crazy as it’s getting, I’m ready.
HHW: The city of Houston is excited about All-Star Weekend, and what’s especially cool is that you’re kicking things off with Houston’s own Slim Thug and Scarface, who will be joined by Jadakiss. Was the decision to start things off with a few big names from the city intentional?
Jessica: Yes, I definitely wanted to start off the weekend with a Houston feel, just because I wanted everybody to get a taste of what we do down here and how we do things. My business partner is from New York, and we’re kinda doing a New York comes to Houston type party. We’re actually in the process of adding another artist from New York who I won’t name yet. That’ll be a surprise, but it’s gonna be a pretty good party. People out here don’t get to see Jadakiss very much, so him and Scarface and Slim Thug in the same place is gonna be a really live event.
HHW: Now that event takes place on February 14th – Valentine’s Day. Should the fellas cut the romantic evening short and hit the show, or bring wifey along?
Jessica: They can bring them along! We’re gonna be partying and having a good time, so if that’s who you’re rockin’ with, bring them. We’re doing things a little bit different, so if you’re not with somebody – who knows? You might find somebody to be with that night.
HHW: The following night, you’ve got Fabolous and Meek Mill doing a show. What time does that event kick off, and can we expect any guest appearances?
Jessica: The doors open for that event at 9pm, Meek and Fabolous will be there along with DJ Drama and DJ Quicksilva, so that’s gonna be a big night, too. There will definitely be guest appearances that night because I’ve had managers book sections for their clients, so there’s gonna be even more celebrities in the building than just the ones on the ticket.
HHW: Warehouse Live is a well-known spot for traditional hip hop shows, but you’re giving the venue a South Beach makeover for All-Star. Tell us about that.
Jessica: We still want to keep the concept centered around the music and the artists that produce good music, but we also wanted to transform it into a party type atmosphere, where you can get a section and get a bottle, party and mix with people. What we’ve created is really the best of both worlds: You’ve got live music and the party atmosphere where you can chill and relax.
HHW: Should I step on the scene in a t-shirt and jeans or really bring out the nice gear?
Jessica: This is the thing: Our parties are the “no bougieness” All-Star parties. Of course, you want to look fly, we’re not saying come bummed out, but we’re not gonna do it where you gotta have on dress shoes and jeans that are cutting off your circulation. We’re not doing all that. Come looking nice, but we’re not gonna be enforcing some strict dress code. You wanna wear your ballcap? Wear ‘em. You wanna wear your J’s? Wear ‘em.
HHW: And of course, this all leads up to the Birdman Celebrity Birthday party on February 16th. With so many dope events lined up, which one are you looking forward to the most?
Jessica: I’m excited about all three of them, honestly. The Birdman birthday party with DJ Khaled … I mean people are so excited about that. We’re flooded with calls about that one. Seeing somebody from the South that we’ve watched come up from the Hot Boyz to the huge CEO he is now, and being able to celebrate his birthday with him … it’s just gonna be a very over-the-top celebration. DJ Khaled always rocks it, so the environment’s just gonna be crazy. The Fabolous and Meek Mill thing … Fabolous is such a huge person in the hip hop and mixtape world and a lot of people down here have never seen him, so this is a great opportunity to see him with Meek and DJ Drama. There’s someone from every part of the country that night. That’s gonna be huge. I’m excited about Thursday night, too. I grew up listening to Scarface, and Slim is always doing his thing so to add Jadakiss, one of the best MCs of all time … I just think All-Star weekend’s gonna be huge.
