Always keeping you up on the latest and greatest in mainstream and underground hip hop, we proudly introduce you to Note$. Repping the great state of Louisiana, he’s an artist with some powerful music. We caught up with him in ATL, and hopefully we connect again with Note$ at our upcoming A3C show this October. Check out the interview below, the music above and don’t forget where you heard it first!!
HHW: What’s the story behind your stage name, Notes?
NOTES: It means New Orleans The East Side, that’s where I’m originally from.
HHW: What got you into doing music?
NOTES: I been around music all my life, since I was three years old.
HHW: What made you decide to pursue a career in music full time?
NOTES: Because I love music, it was a way for me to express myself. It was a way to tell my story.
HHW: Have you ever had any career outside of recording?
NOTES: No just music.
HHW: Is there something else you would be doing if music didn’t work out?
NOTES: Yes I do. Honestly, it would be anything to help and support my family. Whatever I have to do, really.
HHW: Career wise, who would you consider to be an early inspiration?
NOTES: Well, does it have to be an artist?
HHW: It can be anyone.
NOTES: I would say my mother inspired me and the reason I say that is because is because I see her grind and work ethic. For a woman to be so independent, that’s inspiring. She’s a strong woman who definitely inspired me alot.
HHW: When did you know it was time to make hip hop a career?
NOTES: I’d say in 2009 or 2010. I knew I wanted to do this.
HHW: Have you ever released a major project?
NOTES: I just released a mixtape called More Real than Rich on May 5th. It’s on Spinrilla, Audiomack and MyMixtapes.com.
HHW: What separates you from other rap artists?
NOTES: The difference between me and other artists is I’m being me, I’m being myself. I’m not trying to compare my Chapter 1 to their Chapter 20.
HHW: Have you ever toured?
NOTES: I’ve been on tour when I was younger, but as far as opening up for people I haven’t opened up for any major artists.
HHW: What do you do in your free time?
NOTES: Record. I try to get in the booth as much as I can, making new music.
HHW: As far as the hip hop game, what do you want to be known for.
NOTES: I want to be known for my originality.
