In a recent issue of HHW Mag, Queen Bobbi caught up with rising rap star Kevin Gates to discuss beats, rhymes and life. Check out an excerpt of her interview below.
HHW: I’m interested to know how the situation turned out that inspired “Posed To Be In Love”.
KEVIN GATES: In story mode?
HHW: Like in real life. Did you two work it out?
KEVIN GATES: My life is like a movie. If I were to answer that, it would ruin the suspense of it because there is a sequel [to “Posed To Be In Love]. Everything that goes on with me is an ongoing situation. So I don’t want to ruin the movie.
HHW: So I just have to stay tuned to hear how it turned out?
KEVIN GATES: Yeah. Kind of like “Trapped In The Closet” [Laughs]
HHW: What does it take to be Kevin Gate’s girl? What do you look for in a woman?
KEVIN GATES: Any women that I have feelings for, we have to be best friends first. We have to have similar interests, similar morals, and a similar belief system. I like to have a friend. Like a BFF [Laughs] whatever it transpires into, that’s what it transpires into. I don’t like to meet a woman and we just straight have sex. Tell me things like “Kevin you’re a great person, I love being around you. You make me laugh.” After about six months we’re cool and we do everything together then we accidently f–k, you know? [Laughs] Tell me you love me.
HHW: When you did the three years in prison how did that change Kevin Gates as a person?
KEVIN GATES: It didn’t change me as a person because I was already institutionalized. Doing time is something that comes natural to me. It changed my outlook on things because my name had a different type of buzz upon being reinstated back into society. When I saw my fan base and I saw my growth, I was taken aback. So I have a greater sense of appreciation for what I do and the individuals I call fans.
