The group’s name is Rae Sremmurd (“Ear Drummers” spelled backwards) and their song “No Flex Zone is all over radio. We sat down with Lee, the 19-year-old rapper and one half of the group, for an exclusive interview. Check out a portion below.
HHW: Looks like you filmed the “No Flex Zone”video at South By Southwest back in March. What do you remember about that video shoot?
Lee: Whoa! That video right there that was the funniest ever. It wasn’t even like we were shooting a video, just living life. We were not even thinking about the camera when we was doing all that stuff, we were just living — going around, turning up AND giving off organic vibes. Everybody was in the video. If they were turned up and having a good time we was like hey come join us, just walking down sixth street. We used some of the show clips from SXSW in the video.
HHW: What do you think about Nicki Minaj’s new song “Anaconda,” and if she did cover art for the “No Flex Zone” remix, what kind of look would you want to see her do?
Lee: Nicki is a very talented artist and I salute her on whatever she does. She is so pretty so she can do anything really.
HHW: Did Nicki or her people tell you she was going to remix the record?
Lee: Yeah they contacted our people and asked if we were down for a remix, and we were like green light!
