[PICS] HHW Hits Chicago for Packed Performance Starring The-Dream!!
Story and Photos by Cindy Barrymore
Justin Bieber’s “Baby,” Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It),” Rihanna’s “Umbrella” are just a few of the songs The-Dream has cowritten. Born Terius Youngdell Nash, the four-time Grammy Award-winning songwriter and former spouse of singer/actress Christina Milian is better known for his collaborations than for his solo work.
So it’s understandable that his recent gig headlining The Metro included a smattering some of those more famous hits. Dream, working Kanye West’s “All of the Lights” and Jay Z’s “Holy Grail” in with a seductive set of slow jams (“Sweat It Out” and “Purple Kisses”) to rival R. Kelly, proved he isn’t saving his best work just for other artists.
Most notably during “Falsetto,” a mesmerized crowd hung on his every “ooh, ooh, baby, ah, ah, ahh!” They were primed and ready for “IV Play” so that by the time he launched seamlessly into “Do Me Baby” the 1980s R&B power ballad seemed more like another cut from his repertoire than a Prince tribute.
