Sean John President Jeff Tweedy cites knowing your customer and keeping things fresh key practices behind the company’s continued success…
Since the late 90s Sean John has established itself as the brand for the fashion savvy hip hop enthusiasts. Hip Hop Weekly was invited to the brand’s Dream Big event which highlighted key pieces from its upcoming fall collection.
Also in attendance were hip hop personalities Troy Ave, DJ Mustard, NBA star John Wall and Terrance J, star of the new romantic comedy, Think Like a Man Too. Jeff Tweedy, President of Sean John, explained how the Diddy’s original vision for the brand helped make it the powerhouse it is today. “The way we’ve been able to last for 16 years is staying focused on knowing who our core customer is. The inspiration is something Mr. Combs set out in ’98 to do, and it was really taking that young customer that wanted something a little more sophisticated with a nice fit but not too fashion forward. Just a classic look that you can wear season after season.” When asked about upcoming fashion trends, Tweedy said black is definitely back. Sean John’s new collection arrives in Macy’s this August.
According to Mustard, he had to visit the Sean John event because staying fresh is simply a must.
“High fashion. Fly fashion, it’s what I do daily,” the star producer told HHW. Mustard, who was decked out in Sean John, said he believed in the philosophy of shooting for the stars. “We dreamin’ big. I’m just happy to be a part of it and blessed to be here.”
Dreaming big extends to all aspects of life. Take Brooklyn rapper Troy Ave, for example. Through hard work and dedication, the young rapper took his movement from the streets, to the web and now he is being named as one of the most promising spitters from the Big Apple. Recently his BSB crew released a new project and of course, there is much more to come.
“BSB started as a small group of friends, doing what we had to do to get where we needed to be.” Troy explained. “I started with the whole rap thing, feeling like I could tell my story.”
